Foot & Ankle Pain

Common Causes

Your feet bear your weight and take you where you need to go. They’re remarkably complex structures, full of bones, joints, ligaments, muscles, tendons, and blood vessels, all working together. It’s possible to injure just about any of these components, or experience problems in your feet as the result of another condition, resulting in foot pain.

Foot pain often comes from overuse, or the repetitive wear-and-tear you place on your feet. Overuse injuries are common among runners and people who work on their feet, and tend to be worse if you perform these activities without supportive footwear.

The structure of your feet may make you more susceptible to foot pain. If you have flat feet or high arches, for example, you’re more likely to place excess pressure on your feet.
